The Task

The scope of work included redesigning the website of Forequest, designing the mobile first website of Wakapapa and Actifyre from scratch, and creating the V2 of the app Actifyre.

Improving The Existing App

The first step was analyzing the existing app to identify pain points and opportunities for improvement.

Since the app was in its MVP stage, some features felt unintuitive and required users to develop familiarity before fully engaging with them. However, the app had a strong core concept—an AI-powered, gamified approach to discovering ads, allowing users to hunt for deals, earn points, and unlock special offers.

Through this analysis, it became clear that the app needed stronger gamification elements and a greater sense of achievement. To enhance user motivation, a ranking page was introduced, replacing the manifesto page, to reinforce progress and competition.

Saves

The home page underwent key improvements to enhance usability and engagement. The mission tags were redesigned to accommodate diverse images, replacing the previous gradient overlay, which often diminished the visual impact. Additionally, an achievements panel was introduced at the top, reinforcing the gamified experience by allowing users to track their progress with every login. To create a cohesive in-app economy, the Actifyre Coin was introduced and integrated across multiple pages.

Active missions and mission pages were refined based on the new UX strategy, making it easier for users to understand mission details, rewards, and objectives while improving overall tracking.

The ranking page replaced the manifesto. While the original concept included a donation system explained on the manifesto page, this feature was deprioritized in the MVP phase, as building a user base took precedence. Instead, the ranking page fostered engagement by introducing a competitive element, allowing users to see how active they were compared to others.

Significant changes were also made to the flyer page. Previously, the top buttons detracted from the flyer-like experience. Since the app's patented swipe gestures were a core feature but required a learning curve, additional buttons were introduced alongside swipe actions. An overlay was also added to guide users, ensuring a smoother transition into the app’s interaction model.

The offers page replaced the settings page, as settings were not a primary functionality. Instead, this new section provided clear access to exclusive deals and rewards for contest winners.

Lastly, the saves page replaced the wallet. Rather than collecting cards, it made more sense for users to have a dedicated space to store saved offers and missions, aligning better with the app’s core purpose.

Next Steps

The next step for the Actifyre app project would be to assess the feasibility of launching the app. This could involve revisiting the business strategy, conducting market research to evaluate current demand, and identifying any technical or design refinements needed before release. If launching is no longer viable, another approach could be repurposing the work—such as showcasing it as a case study, adapting features for a new project, or pitching the concept to potential investors or stakeholders.
