The Challenge
GenZ is the most disconnected generation ever. Especially after the pandemic, there is a longing of meeting new people and engaging in new activities / sustaining old ones.
The challenge was to design a delightful and engaging experience tailored specifically for Gen Z—a generation seeking authentic connections and interactive platforms that resonate with their dynamic lifestyles.
Gen Z craves platforms that go beyond passive connections, offering experiences that feel authentic, interactive, and exciting. However, existing social and activity-based platforms often fail to create meaningful matches or foster genuine interactions.
Opportunity Selection

Design Opportunities
To design an interactive solution to support the Generation Z to socialize by meeting new people and engaging in the activities they like or want to discover that generates psychological and relational delight by matching people based on their proficiency levels in activities and creating an excitement of meeting with new people within the context of a gameful and hedonistic delightful experience opportunity.

User Testing & Major Improvements
To create a more simple flow, the first system was abandoned after the user testing. Seperation of the three events on the same page created a harder to follow user interface. Instead, the option to filter was presented and this way a simpler flow was achieved by using the Z pattern.
1
Moving the create activity (shoutout) button to the main menu because it is one of the main functions of the app to create an activity
2
Removing the 1v1 and group tabs to solve the problem of confusion
3
Simplifying the bottom navigation bar by removing the favourites and scheduled activities buttons and putting them inside the profile page
4
Showing more results in the same page to minimize the time searching for an activity
5
Insertion of the search bar on the top for faster and more efficient navigation
ShoutOut
Logo was designed by the simplification of a megaphone, symbolizing shoutout

Flow of attending an event
Users will see a list of events that are chosen according to their preferences and interest on the main page. They can filter and see the details of the events
Flow of creating an event
To create a new activity, users select all the details. When selecting a location, they can see the crowd map so they can select the perfect time for them. After shouting out, the event is published on the main page
Next Steps
The next steps for the Shoutout would be refining and testing the concept to prepare for potential implementation.
User testing with a diverse group of Gen Z participants would provide valuable insights to enhance the platform’s features and usability. Developing an interactive prototype would allow for testing the activity-based matching system and gamified elements in real-world scenarios.
Finally, launching a beta version with targeted marketing would help gather feedback, build excitement, and iteratively improve the platform to meet the needs of its audience.
